In the case of an excessively fragile or incomplete skull, the cast can be obtained through stereolithography, also known as 3-D layering.

This widely used rapid prototyping technology enables to create solid, plastic, three-dimensional (3-D) cast of skull from CAD drawings of Computer Tomography (CT) scans.

The sculpture can be made directly on the stereolithography, following the same method of reconstruction.
